DipMeter 2.0

Plots dip magnitude and direction at specified depths.

DipMeter 2.0 plots the following types of charts for a given depth interval from ASCII data.
Data may be extracted from LAS files with LAS-DataSampler 2.0 (included with Dipmeter 2.0), or created as a spreadsheet.
  • Tadpole plots

  • Dip magnitude and azimuth plotted against depth in same track as tadpole. Dip magnitude is plotted as a circle and azimuth is plotted as a line segment.

  • SCAT plots (structural curvature analysis technique)

  • Dip magnitude and azimuth plotted in separate tracks against depth.

  • Cumulative dip

  •
  • Dip-azimuth cross plot with histograms

  • Cross-plot of dip magnitude versus azimuth. Frequency histograms of dip magnitude and azimuth are calculated.

  • Bottlebrush plots

  • Dip plotted as line segments against depth.

  • Schmidt plots

  • Dip magnitude and azimuth plotted on a series of graduated circles.
Diagrams may be plotted at any scale.
Diagrams may be saved as PICT files and pasted into a montage.

    Instructions:
Open a tab-delimited TEXT file that contains dipmeter data.
Data may be extracted from LAS files with LAS-DataSampler 2.0.
The data must be organized in four columns as follows:

    depth[tab]magnitude[tab]direction[tab]quality[return]
    1) Depth must be a positive number.
    2) Dip magnitude must be 0-90°.
    3) Dip direction must be 0-360°
    4) Data quality flag is optional. "1" is the default value.  The quality flag can be set to any value or character.  Measurements with values matching the data quality flag setting are plotted with a solid circle.  Other measurements are plotted with open circles.  If the column is missing from the data set, all measurements are plotted with open circles.

    Options:

  • Depth scale - Toggle depth scale on/off.
  • Gridlines - Toggle gridline display on/off
  • Color split - Color split on: symbols are colored by opposing directions (useful for bi-directional data). Color split off, symbols gradually grow darker with increasing depth.

    Quality flag:
A value to indicate good quality data may be entered as a cut-off or exact match. Good quality data is plotted with a solid circle. Low quality data is plotted with an open circle, or not plotted.
