LithologyColumn 2 for Mac OSX Intel & PPC Macs

Create lithologic logs for core descriptions or outcrop sections from tab-delimited text data.

Method:
1) Describe lithology from core or a measured section. Save descriptions as a text file from Excel or any text editor.
2) Use Lithology Column to create stratigraphic columns (edit the text files, save and use "Reload" to quickly open the new data).
3) Create several columns at the same scale (save as a PICT file or copy to the clipboard to paste into any document that accepts PICT graphics).
4) Assemble the columns side-by-side in a graphics application such as Canvas, Intaglio or Illustrator.

Instructions:
Open a tab-delimited ASCII TEXT file that contains the descriptive lithology data.
The information for each lithology column must be organized into a text file with 6 columns, as follows:
LithologyName[tab]intervaltop[tab]intervalbase[tab]
grainsize[tab]directionalchange[tab]comments¶

In Excel it would look like this:
LithologyName intervaltop intervalbase grainsize directionalchange comments
text number number number number text
Siltstone 5 10 2 0 fossiliferous
Fine sandstone 10 35 4 1 wood fragments

Lithology name -text, use consistent terminology, automatic lithology types defined by lithology name.
Interval top -number, depth of top of interval
Interval base -number, depth of base of interval; (base-top=thickness of interval)
Grainsize -number, 0 to 10; values for the x-axis of the artificial grainsize (gamma-ray) log. For example, 1=clay, 2=silt, 3=very fine sand, ..., 9=cobble, 10=boulder.
Direction of change -number, 0=no change, 1=fining up, 2=coarsening up; if blank default=0
Comments -text, optional, description or comments printed next to lithology log; 256 character length (MS Excel limit)
